Our Recipe For A Sustainable Future

December 3, 2024

“The future of humanity and indeed, all life on earth, now depends on us.” – David Attenborough

Acutely aware of the delicate balance between earth and humanity, our team are committed to mindful and sustainable practices that mitigate the impact of our business and our events.

As an industry leader in hospitality, our part in the sustainability movement encompasses considered and holistic approaches to sourcing produce, waste management and the preservation of natural resources.  Coupled with our company’s robust ethical practices throughout the catering supply chain, we are committed to ensuring our environmental, social, and economic impact (the three pillars of sustainability, ‘ESG’) is at one with our planet’s sustainability goals.

The Proof Is In The Pudding

At The Event Kitchen, we know that to be truly ‘sustainable’ it requires a commitment above and beyond a passion for recycling and bee – keeping. It may seem obvious, but the proof really is in the pudding…

As part of the UN 2030 agenda, world leaders agreed a sustainable development framework. A historic promise and blueprint that globally unites humanity to foster healthy workable practices for a thriving future planet, through the adoption of a few key goals (SDG’s). Following our pathway to a transparent and sustainable company, we have thus far implemented seven subsequent goals, forming a tangible foundation for our ESG programme, infrastructure and daily practices.

Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing

As part of our health and wellbeing goals, we chose Shipston Home Nursing as our local charity partners for 2024. Our collaborations go beyond a few free canapés but instead see the whole team investing and volunteering their time to both benefit events, charitable projects and sport sponsorships to elevate our support within the local community.

Goal 4: Quality Education & Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

At The Event Kitchen, our apprentices are an integral part of our team from budding chefs to aspiring event managers. We take pride in nurturing young minds, promoting from within and helping talented students develop into successful industry professionals.

Goal 13: Climate Action & Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production

It is no secret that climate change is upon us and at The Event Kitchen HQ, we ensure that our business practises are part of the solution. Our offices and kitchens use eco-friendly supplies, prohibit single – use plastics and adopt a ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ policy before anything makes its way to landfill. Our logistics teams promote sustainable transport practices and any unavoidable food waste is sent to our resident compost pile which is in turn scattered onto our fields providing a closed-loop system.

Goal 14: Life below Water & Goal 15: Life on Land

As part of the food industry, we have a level of stewardship and responsibility to understand our environmental impacts and make careful and considered choices towards mitigating them. We continually devise new recipes and dishes that favour ocean – friendly practises, avoid intense and unsustainable farming and aim to source produce which supports local biodiversity and eco-systems.

Bringing home the bacon

Our work doesn’t stop here as we understand that our commitment to our planet, employees, clients and future generations is a journey that is ever evolving. Our ongoing work on our ESG programme, allows us to improve our environmental performance guided by principles outlined in ISO14001 and lays the groundwork towards The Event Kitchen becoming B Corp Certified and hitting our own strategy targets for 2030.
